President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi – the President of the Republic – issued a presidential decree appointing Dr. Hassan Hamdy Abdel Rahman Noman as President of Sohag University for a period of four years, after assuming the position of Acting President of the University during the period from August 1, 2023 until the issuance of the Republican Decision .
Dr. Hassan Noman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University in 1992, and obtained a Master’s degree in orthopedic surgery from the Sohag Faculty of Medicine, South Valley University in 1997. He also obtained a doctorate in orthopedic surgery from the Sohag Faculty of Medicine, South Valley University in 2004.
At the beginning of his professional life; Dr. Hassan worked as a doctor (with distinction) at Assiut University Hospital from March 1993 until February 1994, then a resident doctor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Sohag University Hospital from 1994 until 1998, then an assistant lecturer in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Faculty of Human Medicine, Sohag University from 1998 until 2001. Then he became a teacher of orthopedic surgery, then a consultant for hand surgery and microscopic surgeries at the college in 2004, then an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery, and finally a professor of orthopedic surgery at the college in 2014.
Dr. Hassan has many skills in his field of medical specialization. He worked as a training doctor in the Accident and Injury Reception at Assiut University Hospital, then a resident doctor in the Accident and Injury Reception at Assiut University Hospital. He also worked as a delegate in the Hand Surgery and Microscopic Surgery Unit at Assiut University Hospital, and a delegate in the Hand Surgery Unit. And microscopic surgeries at the Franciscus Hospital in Germany, and a researcher at the Helmholtz Institute and the Institute for Histopathological Studies of Muscle and Nerve Diseases at the University of Aachen in Germany.
He is a member of many international, Arab and local scientific societies, such as: the International Society for Nerve Plexus Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Injuries, the World Federation of Societies for Hand Surgery and Microscopic Surgery, the European Society for Hand Surgery and Microscopic Surgery, the General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab Hand Surgery Associations for Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Society for Hand Surgery. Egyptian, in addition to being a member of the arbitration committee to promote professors and assistant professors in Egypt. He is also a member of the arbitration panel of many international scientific journals in Egypt and abroad. He has more than 37 scientific papers published in international journals, and has published many scientific books and publications, the most important of which are: the book “Peripheral Nerve Injuries: A New Chapter in Peripheral Nerve Injuries,” and the book “Reconstruction.” Bone formation, a chapter on the use of vessel bones in the treatment of bone loss in the extremities .
Dr. Hassan has won many awards, including: the Sohag University Representative Award at the General Secretariat of the Union of Arab Hand Surgery Associations in Morocco in 2019, and the Best Scientific Research Award at the International Hand Surgery Conference, South Korea in 2016, in addition to the Best Research Award at the Hand Surgery Conference in New Delhi in 2013.
Dr. Hassan has held several positions over the past years, the most prominent of which were: Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research from 2021 to date, Dean of the College of Human Medicine from June 2019 until June 2021, and Vice President of the College of Human Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research from June 2018 until June 2019. And Director of the Hand Surgery and Microscopic Surgery Unit at Sohag University Hospital, from September 2014 until now, and Director of the University Emergency Hospital from June 2009 until March 2011.
In this regard; Dr. Hassan extended his deepest thanks and appreciation to the political leadership represented by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and to Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for their trust and continued support for the university to play its effective role in serving society, stressing the university’s determination to continue making more efforts and giving to achieve Egypt’s vision. 2030 in the field of education.
