The establishment and History of the College

The faculty of Arts in Sohag was established in 1975 by Ministerial Decree No. (869), and the faculty was affiliated with Assiut University in the beginning, and the actual study began in the year 1975/1976 in the following departments:

1- Department of Arabic Language and its Literature.

2- Department of English Language and its Literature.

3- Department of French Language and its Literature.

4- Department of History and African Studies.

The college departments developed and other departments were opened, and became (16) sixteen departments, and the first University Study Stage is based on the two-semester system, for four years.

The college now includes the following units:

Quality Assurance Unit.

Unit for the development of student assessment and examination systems.

Center for Social Studies.

Center for Media Studies and Research.

Heritage Studies and Research Center.

Language Teaching Center (Public Service Center for Languages, Translation and Special Purposes).

Archeology and Restoration Studies and Research Center.

Media Center for Training, Development and Research.

Electronic Services Unit.

Public library.

Library of Dr/ Abdel Rahman Fahmy.

Scientific Journal:

It is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific research, the first issue was in 1978 AD, and the college issues four issues in the month (January-April-July-October) of each year, and it has a deposit number in the House of Books, and an international numbering ISSN.

The study is divided from the second year into three sections:

A- Persian Language and Literature Division.

B – Department of Turkish Language and its Literature.

C- Department of Hebrew Language and its Literature.

Department of English Language and its Literature.

Department of French Language and its Literature.

Department of German Language and its Literature.

Department of Greek and Latin Studies.

The study is divided from the second year into two divisions:

Press Division.

Division of Public Relations and Tourism Media.

Translation program (English language) with a credit hour system.

Translation program (French language) with a credit hour system.

Translation program (German language) with a credit hour system.

Surveying and Geographical Information Systems program with credit hour system.

Open Education:

Archeology and Tourist Guidance Program – Credit Hours System.

French Language Program for Communication – Credit Hours System.

Arabic Language and Literature Program – Credit Hours System.

Geography and Regional Planning Program – Credit Hours System.
